Get answers to your questions about CBD

  • What exactly is CBD?
CBD is the common name for cannabidiol, which is a molecule derived from the cannabis plant. CBD is not marijuana and marijuana is not CBD. The CBD molecule in the cannabis plant is extracted and combined with a fat soluble medium and then can be added to flavored tinctures, creams for topical use, gummies, and capsules.
  • How does CBD provide relief to those with anxiety, depression, and pain?"
Your body has what is known as the endocannabinoid system. This allows the cannabidiol to interact with receptors for pain, anxiety, and the neurotransmitter serotonin. The effects are reduced anxiety and pain, and an elevated mood. Lack of adequate serotonin is referenced as one of the primary causes of depression. Adequate serotonin production and reabsorption is responsible for a stable mood and sleep/wake cycle and this is the function of a healthy neurotransmission system.
  • What types of pain does CBD help?
CBD has been shown to help with many different types of pain. It is believed that CBD reduces inflammation in the body and many types of pain co-exist with inflammation. In addition to reducing inflammation, CBD acts on pain receptors and allows your nerve cells to respond to combat pain. Specific studies evaluating the effect of CBD on different types of pain have shown CBD to be effective for chronic pain; including cancer pain, fibromyalgia, and neuropathic pain. CBD has also been shown to be effective for reducing osteoarthritis pain and inflammation.
  • Can I get high using CBD?
You cannot get high using CBD in its extracted form. CBD is a separate, unique molecule from THC, the psychoactive molecule present in the cannabis plant. Each of these molecules are removed from the raw cannabis plant and separated for different uses thanks to modern extraction methods. The THC molecule is the component used for medical marijuana and the CBD molecule is used for supplements, skin care, and as an alternative treatment for anxiety, depression, and insomnia.
  • Does CBD have an aroma or taste similar to marijuana?
It does not. The skunky smell associated with marijuana is due to the cannabis being engineered for high levels of THC. The hemp used for extracting CBD does not contain more than 0.3% THC. The strong smell generally associated with marijuana is not found in products containing only CBD.
  • Will I fail a drug test with use of your products?
Most work-place drug screens and tests target delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and do not detect the presence of other legal natural hemp-based constituents. However, studies have shown that eating hemp foods and oils can cause confirmed positive results when screening urine and blood specimens. Accordingly, if you are subject to any form of drug testing or screening, we recommend (as does the United States Armed Services) that you DO NOT ingest our products. Prior to consuming these products consult with your healthcare practitioner, drug screening/testing company or employer. Maria’s Medicinals works with suppliers who guarantee a less than or equal to 0.3% THC content. With these trace amounts of THC, it is highly unlikely that you will fail a drug test, however, Maria’s Medicinals does not take any responsibility in the instance a customer fails a drug test while using these products.
  • Will CBD impair my ability to drive a car?
No. While not all people respond the same to the effects of the ingestion of the CBD plant molecule, it is not intoxicating and should not impair your driving.
  • What is considered a dose of CBD?
While CBD is not a drug, it should be viewed as something similar. Some people take 200mg of ibuprofen for a headache while others need 800mg to get relief. CBD dosing is similar. You should start with the minimum recommended dose on the label of each product, and increase your dosage gradually to the maximum recommended dosage.
  • What is Delta 8?
According to the National Cancer Institute, Delta 8 THC is: "An analogue of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with antiemetic, anxiolytic, appetite-stimulating, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties. [Delta-8-THC] binds to the cannabinoid G-protein coupled receptor CB1, located in the central nervous system. This agent exhibits a lower psychotropic potency than [delta-9-THC], the primary form of THC found in cannabis."
  • How long do the effects of Delta 8 last?
The effects of delta 8 THC typically last between 2-4 hours. However, this can vary depending on the individual and the dosage consumed.
